Despite a stellar performance at the plate by Brandon Kozlansky, the Tunkhannock Varsity Tigers came up just short in a 9-8 loss to the Mountain View Varsity Eagles on Monday.

Kozlansky was locked in all game, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. He sparked a Tunkhannock offense that nearly completed a massive comeback after falling behind early.

Mountain View jumped out to a commanding 7-0 lead by the end of the second inning, thanks to a five-run first inning fueled by a bases-loaded single from Jackson Gesford that cleared the bases, and a series of productive outs and timely hits in the second.

Tunkhannock, however, refused to fold. The Tigers mounted a furious rally, scoring runs in bunches behind aggressive base running and a series of hits that included a pair of RBI singles and multiple errors by the Eagles’ defense. They tallied eight walks and nine hits, led by Kozlansky and Colin Gregory, who both also swiped multiple bases. In total, the Tigers racked up nine steals on the base paths.

Paul Poepperling started on the mound for Tunkhannock, allowing seven hits and seven runs across three innings. Mountain View’s Jordan Jagger pitched four and two-thirds innings, giving up five hits and five runs — though only two were earned — while striking out seven.

Gesford led the charge for Mountain View with three RBIs, and Ziggy Bradford added two hits and three stolen bases, giving the Eagles a strong edge in the early innings that proved just enough to hold off Tunkhannock’s comeback.

The Tigers will look to bounce back when they take the field against Hanover Area on Tuesday.
