MILFORD — WarriorFest lived up to its billing once again on Saturday, turning Delaware Valley’s campus into a showcase of school spirit, community pride, and Warrior tradition. From food trucks and vendors to spirited pep rallies and the journalism program’s first-ever High School Gameday broadcast, the entire day felt like a festival. Students capped off a week of spirit activities with a packed house for the Warriors’ showdown against Abington Heights, followed by their homecoming dance Saturday night.

The celebration also honored history, with Delaware Valley’s Hall of Fame induction taking place pregame, and homecoming court festivities at halftime. Layered on top of the pageantry was the annual tradition of the Black and Blue Jug Trophy, first introduced in 2005 as a way to add pride to a yearly matchup between two of District 2’s most competitive 5A programs.

Game Recap

On the field, the Warriors made sure the jug stayed home, using a combination of explosive plays and timely defense to beat Abington Heights, 28–14.

Senior Mike Iuzzolino turned in a great all-around performance, impacting the game in multiple phases. He carried the ball 23 times for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns, blocked a punt, and delivered the knockout blow with a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Devin Estevez added a back-breaking 53-yard rushing touchdown in the final quarter, stretching DV’s lead and igniting the WarriorFest crowd.

For Abington Heights, quarterback Noah Kayal filled in admirably for the injured Nick Bradley, who hurt his left hand in last week’s battle with North Pocono. Kayal went 14-for-23 for 198 yards and a touchdown, including a 28-yard strike to Gavin Anders. Despite moving the ball well, the Comets couldn’t slow DV’s explosive plays in the second half.

Key Moments

Second Quarter: Iuzzolino opened the scoring with a 1-yard TD run; Kayal tied it with a 1-yard keeper.

Third Quarter: Iuzzolino struck again with a 26-yard run to put DV in front.

Fourth Quarter: Estevez broke loose for a 53-yard touchdown; Kayal answered with a 28-yard TD pass to Anders, but Iuzzolino sealed it moments later with his 98-yard kickoff return.

What It Means

The Warriors’ victory not only preserved their homecoming celebration but also kept the Black and Blue Jug in Milford for another year. It also showcased senior leadership and explosive playmaking on one of Delaware Valley’s proudest traditions.

Delaware Valley improves to 2–4 on the season and will host Long Island Lutheran in Week 7. Abington Heights drops to 4–2 and looks to regroup at home against a surging Scranton Prep squad.
