HONESDALE — After a tough stretch of games, Honesdale softball got back on track Monday afternoon with a steady 6-3 win over Western Wayne, sparked by a strong middle-inning surge and a complete game effort in the circle.
Trailing 2-0 after the top of the first, the Hornets answered quickly and never looked back. Ava Patrisso kicked off the rally in the second inning with an RBI single to tie things up, and Honesdale exploded for three more runs in the third to take control. Lily Head, who went 2-for-4 on the day, came through with a clutch RBI single during the outburst, while Georgianna Maglione added another RBI in the fourth to extend the lead.
Pitcher Leah Salzameda delivered a composed performance, throwing all seven innings while scattering five hits and striking out three. After allowing a run in the sixth, she shut down the Wildcats in the seventh to seal the win.
Western Wayne’s offense was paced by Hannah DeStefano’s two-run blast in the first, and Raegan Palmer added a pair of hits, but the Wildcats couldn’t recover from the Hornets’ middle-inning momentum.
The win lifts Honesdale’s spirits and shows signs of progress after battling through some tough contests. The Hornets will look to build off this victory as they continue their season.
