The Honesdale Varsity Hornets kicked off their season in dominant fashion with a 6-1 road win over the Wilkes-Barre Wolfpack.

The Hornets wasted no time getting on the board, plating two runs in the top of the first inning and adding another in the second. That early momentum was all they needed as they maintained control throughout the game, tacking on three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh to seal the deal.

• Chris Tirney added a hit, a run, and an RBI.

• Jared Ahern helped his own cause with an RBI double.

• Logan Martin and R. Dennis each added hits and runs, while E. Corso drove in one run.

Jared Ahern delivered a complete game gem on the mound for Honesdale, tossing 7.0 innings of one-run ball. He struck out eight, walked none, and scattered four hits, earning the win.

Wilkes-Barre Bright Spots:

• A. Hufford doubled and scored the Wolfpack’s lone run in the bottom of the second.

• J. Howe added a hit and an RBI.

• N. Fritz started on the mound, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing three earned runs with three strikeouts.
