HONESDALE, PA — SportzWire photographer Chandra Dickison was on hand to capture every emotional moment of a powerful jersey presentation ceremony held by Honesdale Football to honor the memory of Samson Fluck.

On this day, Honesdale Football unveiled a meaningful new tradition: each season, jersey #20 will be awarded to a player who exemplifies Samson’s relentless work ethic, leadership, and dedication to the Hornets. It’s a number that will never simply be sewn onto a jersey—it will be earned. And it will carry the weight of Samson’s legacy with every snap.

This year, the honor went to Kobe White, Samson’s best friend and a senior leader on the team. When asked about the moment he received the jersey, Kobe said, “Yeah, I’m super excited and it’s a huge honor because he was not just an amazing football player but an amazing brother to me also. It feels nice walking around with #20 on my back knowing he’s watching.”

Kobe has long been a central figure in keeping Samson’s spirit present on the field. Throughout last season, he carried Samson’s #20 jersey to every game, hanging it on the fence so his friend was always part of the night. That act of loyalty became a symbol of what Honesdale Football stands for—love, respect, and playing for something bigger than yourself.

Another moment from the day perfectly captured that bond: Samson’s younger brother, Cam Fine, was spotted at the end of the ceremony playing catch with Kobe—a simple but powerful reminder of how friendships and family ties continue long after the final whistle.

Inside the Hornets’ locker room, Samson’s presence is felt daily. A special #20 plaque hangs outside the doors, and before every practice and home game, players reach up to slap it as they head out to the field. It’s a ritual of respect, a way to channel the energy and spirit that Samson brought to every down.

Through this tradition, the Hornets are making sure that Samson’s name, his example, and his love for the game will never fade. The #20 jersey is now more than a uniform—it’s a legacy, passed from one player to the next, carrying with it the responsibility to honor the young man who defined what it meant to be a Honesdale Hornet.

Pictured from left to right are: Kellie White (Kobe’s step-mom), Myles White (Kobe’s brother), Cam Fine (Samson’s brother), Bethany Fine (Samson’s mom), Kobe White (Samson’s best friend), Vanessa Bertot (Kobe’s mom), Evania Bertot and Elliana Bertot (Kobe’s sisters), Andrew Bertot (Kobe’s step-father), and Gail and Jay Watson (Kobe’s grandparents). Standing together in unity and love, this group represents not only the tight bond between families, but the deeper connection shared through the legacy of Samson Fluck.
