Holy Cross showcased its firepower in a statement 15-0 win over Old Forge on Wednesday, fueled by a 15-hit offensive outburst that featured a grand slam from Mia Galella and a three-inning shutout performance from Ava Schmidt.
The Crusaders wasted no time getting on the board. Peyton Graboske opened the scoring with a two-run single before Jules Galella launched a three-run homer to center field. Chloe Mendicino added an RBI single to cap a six-run first inning.
Holy Cross kept the momentum rolling in the second. Grace Rogers drove in two runs with a single, Lila Kolcharno added another RBI base hit, and Mia Galella delivered the knockout blow — a grand slam to right field — making it 13-0.
In the third, Ava Schmidt added an RBI single and later came around to score on an Old Forge error, closing out the scoring at 15.
Schmidt was perfect in the circle, tossing three shutout innings while allowing just two hits, walking none, and striking out two. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate.
Every part of the lineup contributed in the win, with six players registering multi-hit performances. The Galella sisters combined for seven RBIs on two home runs, and Holy Cross’s aggressive offense never let up.
It was a night to remember for the Galella family and the Holy Cross softball program, as sisters Mia and Jules Galella both homered in the same game
