Holy Cross Coach Al Callejas Claims NYC Sharpshooting Crown at Knicks Wellball Tournament

NEW YORK, NY – Holy Cross head basketball coach Al Callejas proved he's still got one of the deadliest shots around, taking home the individual shooting title at the inaugural Knicks Wellball Tournament on Saturday, April 12 at Basketball City, Pier 36 in Manhattan.
Competing in the Adult Individual Division, Callejas—one of the oldest participants in the field—outlasted a stacked bracket of shooters from across the region in a high-stamina, high-volume competition that tested both precision and endurance. The tournament format featured head-to-head rounds, with players shooting from 15 total spots (eight two-point spots and seven three-point spots), each with timed intervals and a dedicated rebounder.
Callejas delivered an electric comeback in the semifinals, draining 22 threes in a single minute to secure his spot in the final. He saved his best for last, knocking down 19 three-pointers in the final round’s one-minute frame to clinch the title and the $1,500 grand prize, earning the right to call himself NYC’s top shooter.

Adding to the atmosphere were appearances by Knicks legends Patrick Ewing, Stephon Marbury, Anthony Mason and Larry Johnson, lending star power to an already electric event.
Callejas credited his support team—David Romanski, who served as his rebounder, and Connor Callejas, who kept him focused with live shot counts throughout the rounds—for helping fuel his run to the crown.
