In a heart-wrenching battle on Tuesday night, Penn State Wilkes-Barre fell just short to Penn State Schuylkill, losing 77-76 in a game that came down to the final seconds. The one-point defeat not only stung but also cost Wilkes-Barre their home court advantage heading into the postseason. Now, the team will face off against both Schuylkill and Penn State Mont Alto in the PSUAC playoffs, with a chance to redeem themselves on the road.
The game featured stellar performances from the Wilkes-Barre seniors, who gave it their all in what might have been their final regular season game. #13 Senior Jedidiah Ashton had 15 points while senior guard #23 Willie Anderson added 12 points. Forward #22 Nymier Brooks contributed 13 points as well, showcasing the experience and leadership that Wilkes-Barre will rely on in the playoffs. A standout performance came from #20 Anton Berga, who posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, giving his team an extra boost.
On Schuylkill's side, the team celebrated Senior Night in style as three of their seniors made major contributions. #12 Makhi Jones led the way with 17 points, #0 Antwuan Byrd finished with 14 points, #15 Isaac Lane chipped in 15 points and #13 Dashawn Dixon added 12 points along with 10 rebounds to help seal the victory.
The tightly contested game showed the grit and determination from both teams, but Schuylkill came out on top in the end, leaving Wilkes-Barre to regroup and prepare for their playoff challenge. The upcoming PSUAC playoffs are sure to bring fierce competition, and Wilkes-Barre will look to their seniors and the entire team to bounce back and make a strong postseason run.
