Hazleton Area Advances to the WVC Girls Finals

 Hazleton Area has proven themselves as the top team in District 2 for the 2024-2025 season. Sophia Benyo had a game high 21 points and Kaitlyn Bindas added 20 as the  Lady Cougars advanced to the WVC Championship with a 75-46 victory over Holy Redeemer. Hazleton Area is looking to repeat as WVC Champions.

The Lady Cougars started off with a 7-0 lead and led by as much as 12 during the first quarter and led 20-11 at the end of the first quarter. Hazleton Area continued to build their lead. They got their lead up to 17. The Royals ended the first half with a 6-0 run to cut the Lady Cougars lead to 36-25 at halftime.

Holy Redeemer cut the lead down to 7 to start the second half but Hazleton Area proved to be too much. Three pointers byKayla Lagowy, Kaitlyn Bindas and Mariah Morolo and a free throw by Sophia Shults gave the Lady Cougars a 17 point lead and led 59-36 at the end of the third quarter. Hazleton Area cruised through the fourth quarter to take a 75-46 victory to improve to 23-0 on the season. Mackenzie Chimock had a team high 10 points and Tessa Cegulka added nine for Holy Redeemer.
