In a game where every pitch counted, Hanover Area’s 10-12 All Stars leaned on dominant pitching, key base running, and clutch defense to edge Mountain Top 1-0 on Monday night in the District 16 Semifinals at Ashley.
Stella Styczen was nothing short of electric. The right-hander threw a complete game no-hitter, striking out 8 and walking just one across 6 innings to secure the shutout and the win. Styczen faced 21 batters, needing just 73 pitches—58 of them strikes—to send Hanover to the championship.
The game’s only run came in the bottom of the first. Jillian Weidner sparked the inning with a perfectly placed bunt single, then promptly stole second. With two outs, Styczen helped herself with a line drive RBI single, plating Weidner for the deciding run.
Hanover tallied five hits in total. Styczen finished 2-for-2 with an RBI, Weidner went 1-for-2 with a run and two stolen bases, and Chloe McDaniels also went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles. Paisley Hliwski added a hit in the middle of the order.
While the offense came early, the defense made sure it stood. Gabby Pericci came up with a huge play in the field, faking a throw off a bunt attempt and tagging the runner coming from third to prevent a potential tying score.
Mountain Top’s Emily Wenner matched the intensity pitch for pitch. The righty threw 5 innings of one-run ball, allowing 5 hits while striking out 11 and walking none on 71 pitches (51 strikes). Her defense was sharp, committing zero errors behind her. Brielle Dohman coordinated the infield from behind the plate, leading the team with 11 defensive putouts.
Despite putting the ball in play and showing aggressive baserunning—Anna McLaughlin and Lizzie Brozowski each stole bases—Mountain Top couldn’t break through against Styczen’s command and composure.
Hanover advances to the District Final after a complete team performance highlighted by pitching precision, offensive execution, and heads-up defense.
