In a tightly contested battle on Friday afternoon, Elk Lake held off a late seventh-inning rally from Mid Valley to secure a 3-2 victory on the road.

Senior Noah Gesford was the hero at the plate, delivering a clutch 2-RBI single in the fifth inning that proved to be the difference. Gesford finished the game 2-for-3 with all three of Elk Lake’s RBIs. He also stepped onto the mound in the final three innings, navigating traffic to close the door despite allowing three hits and three walks.

Dawson Sherman got the start for the Warriors, tossing four scoreless innings and scattering three hits while striking out two. Elk Lake jumped out early with two runs in the first and added one more in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.

Mid Valley made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh. Anthony Balashaitis and Nick Pinto crossed the plate, and Douglas Pua delivered an RBI single to cut the lead to one. However, Gesford remained composed and sealed the win without giving up the lead.

On the mound for Mid Valley, Lorenzo Hernandez was dominant, striking out 11 batters across a complete-game effort while allowing just five hits and two earned runs.

The win improves Elk Lake’s strong campaign with another quality victory, while Mid Valley suffers just its third loss in a competitive season.
