Galella Reaches 100 Hits as Holy Cross Outslugs Old Forge, 8-4

OLD FORGE – Holy Cross senior and Boston College commit Mia Galella made her 100th career high school hit count on Monday night, helping power the Crusaders to an 8-4 road victory over Old Forge. Galella, who was walked 36 times as a sophomore and missed half of last season due to injury, capped her milestone with a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, a double, and three total bases.
The Crusaders came out aggressive, scoring three in the first and four more in the second to jump out to a 7-0 lead. Livia Kolcharno and Claire Helring both delivered in the early innings, with Kolcharno going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk, while Helring went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, including a key single in the second.
Holy Cross racked up 11 hits in total. Maysa Hassaj also contributed a 2-for-4 day, driving in two runs and scoring once. Jillian Galella and Ava Schmidt added doubles as the offense kept the pressure on Old Forge starter Kamryn Notari, who gave up eight earned runs on 11 hits over seven innings.
On the mound, Ava Schmidt went the distance for the win, tossing all seven innings. She scattered seven hits, allowed four runs (three earned), and struck out six without issuing a walk. Schmidt also helped herself at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Old Forge chipped away with two runs in the fourth and solo runs in the fifth and sixth. Juliette DeStefano blasted a two-run home run to center in the fourth, while she and Ava Arnold both finished with two hits apiece. DeStefano went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, and Arnold was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Despite the late push by the Blue Devils, Holy Cross’s early offensive explosion proved too much to overcome.
