SCRANTON, Pa. – The pride of Lackawanna College extends beyond the playing field and into the classroom, as 57 Falcon student-athletes were recognized by the NJCAA for their academic excellence during the 2024-2025 school year.
Announced Thursday by the National Junior College Athletic Association, the honors include one 1st Team All-Academic selection, 25 student-athletes named to the 2nd Team, and 31 who received 3rd Team honors. To qualify, student-athletes needed to maintain at least a 3.60 GPA over the academic year, with 4.0 GPA achievers earning top distinction.
Baseball standout John Hughes (Hamilton, NJ) led the charge with a flawless 4.0 GPA, securing 1st Team honors. Baseball also posted the most overall nominees with 17 total, followed by women’s volleyball with nine and six apiece from women’s basketball and softball.
In addition to individual achievements, six Lackawanna College programs earned NJCAA Academic Team of the Year status by posting team GPAs above 3.0. Women's Volleyball led all teams with a 3.59 GPA—ranking in the top 40 nationally—while softball (3.47), baseball (3.31), women’s basketball (3.20), men’s soccer (3.16), and women’s soccer (3.09) also earned distinction.
