For the first time in 16 years, Wyoming Area will be represented at the state level in golf. Sophomore Aiden August earned his spot in the PIAA Individual Championships after shooting a 2-over-par 73 at the District 2 Class 2A Boys Golf Championships.
August tied for fourth overall with Scranton Prep’s Cole Powell, finishing just one shot behind the leaders. His steady play across both the front and back nine secured him a place among the top six qualifiers who advanced to the state tournament.
He will now compete at Penn State University’s Blue and White Courses on October 21–22, joining district co-champions Ben Boyanoski (Scranton Prep), Guy Rothery (Scranton Prep), and Liam Gill (Holy Redeemer), along with Powell and Jack Pavuk (Scranton Prep).
August’s performance carries historic significance for Wyoming Area. By clinching his spot, he ended a long drought for the program and became the Warriors’ first state qualifier since 2008.
The state championships will bring together the best golfers from across Pennsylvania, and August’s strong showing at districts has him poised to carry the Wyoming Area banner on the biggest stage of his high school career so far.
