Dawson Sherman had an impressive performance, driving in four runs with two hits to help lead the Elk Lake Varsity Warriors to a 14-0 victory over the Blue Ridge Varsity Raiders on Wednesday. Sherman delivered a two-run single in the third inning and followed it up with a two-run double in the fourth. The Warriors struck first in the opening inning when Sherman hit a line drive that brought in two runs.
The Warriors erupted for seven runs in the third inning, which included three hits. Braydon McMicken drew a walk to score one, Brayden Miller’s single brought in another run, and Felker's sacrifice fly plated two more. Sherman followed with a two-run single, and an error allowed one additional run to score.
On the mound, Brayden Miller got the start for Elk Lake and dominated, allowing just one hit and no runs over four innings. He struck out six batters and walked two. For the Blue Ridge Raiders, Brendan Marvin took the loss after giving up four hits and nine runs (six earned) in two and a third innings, with one strikeout and three walks. Elk Lake also got a scoreless inning of relief from John Heitsman, who struck out one and walked one.
The Warriors had six walks during the game. Nathaniel Thurman and McMicken each collected two walks. Elk Lake was also aggressive on the bases, stealing five bases in total and turning one double play.Michael Smith was the lone standout for Blue Ridge, recording one hit in two at-bats.
Elk Lake will next face Mountain View on Friday in their upcoming matchup.
