Elk Lake’s offense lit up the scoreboard early and often Saturday in a commanding 18-3 win over Montrose, advancing with authority behind power hitting and solid pitching.

The Lady Warriors put up a staggering eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by home runs from four different players—each representing a different grade level. Brynn Warriner, a junior, started the barrage with a two-run blast to left. Senior Marissa Horn followed with a two-run homer of her own. Freshman Lydia Howell launched a solo shot, and in the fourth inning, sophomore Aleece Greenley capped it off with a three-run bomb to left.

Elk Lake tacked on three more runs in both the second and third innings, capitalizing on defensive miscues and timely hits. Leah Traver and Maddy Ely each ripped doubles to fuel the third-inning rally. In the fourth, Greenley’s homer sealed the offensive showcase, pushing the game out of reach at 18-3.

Horn not only delivered at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort and two RBIs but also earned the win in the circle. She threw 4.0 innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs while striking out six. She threw 83 pitches, 53 for strikes, and faced 19 batters.

Greenley contributed three RBIs despite just one hit, and Warriner had a well-rounded day with a home run, two runs, and two RBIs on a 2-for-3 line. Hannah Howell matched Horn with a 2-for-3 outing and two runs scored.

Montrose’s offense managed to scratch across three runs in the third, led by Kyleise Kublo, who went 2-for-3 with a double. Alyse Legg drove in two runs on her lone hit, and Vanessa Conning also added a hit, a run, and a stolen base. Errors plagued the Meteors’ defense, with six total miscues in the field.

Montrose starter Jocelyn Traver struggled out of the gate, lasting just 0.2 innings and allowing eight runs (two earned) on five hits. Addison Jennings worked the final three frames, giving up 10 runs and five hits while striking out one.

The Lady Warriors pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of three walks and two hit batters to put up crooked numbers in each of the first four innings. With the win, Elk Lake continues to look dangerous heading into the next round of postseason play.
