Dunmore Wins The District 2 3A Girls Title

Dunmore head coach Carrie Toomey knew coming into Saturday afternoon’s District 2 3A Championship game with Holy Redeemer that it was going to be a battle. “It was going to be a mental toughness battle. I thought that our team really stepped up. We never stopped believing. No matter if we were down by six, down by three, up by one.” Said Toomey. Sophia Talluto had a game high 24 points and Amanda Dempsey and Michelle Nidoh each added nine points for Dunmore.

Dunmore started off to a 4-0 lead then Holy Redeemer went on a 9-0 run to end the first quarter to lead 9-4. Sophia Talutto started with a pair of free throws to cut the lead to three. McKenzie Chimock hit a three pointer to make it a 12-6 Royals lead. After an Amanda Dempsey free throw. Bella Boylan got a basket to make it 14-7. The Lady Bucks went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead down to two. Megan Albrecht and Brooke Kroptavich got baskets to make it 18-12. Just before halftime, Talutto got a three pointer at the buzzer to cut the lead to 18-15 in favor of the Royals at halftime.

Chimock started the second half with a three pointer to make it a six point game and got the lead to seven as Talutto and Dempsey each hit three pointers to cut the lead to one. Gillian Parsons got a basket to make it a three point game. Ella Brier tied the game up at 28 on a three pointer. Kroptavich got a basket and Albrecht got a free throw but Talutto got a three point play to end the quarter to tie the game at 31.

Megan Albrecht got a basket to break the tie early in the fourth quarter, then Kroptavich hit a three point play to make it a five point Royal lead. Michelle Nidoh scored five straight points for Dunmore to tie the game. It was a back and forth for a while until Amanda Dempsey hit a free throw with 27.9 to go to give Dunmore the lead at 45-44. The Lady Bucks got the stop on defense then Talutto sunk two free throws to make it 47-44 with 20.3 seconds to go. An offensive foul call was made on Holy Redeemer then Talutto was fouled and hit two free throws to clinch the District 2 3A Title with a 49-44 victory over Holy Redeemer. For Holy Redeemer, Megan Albrecht scored a team high 14 points and Brooke Kroptavich added 11 points.
