Dunmore, PA – Tuesday night at Dunmore High School was about more than just basketball. It was a night where sports and community came together for a greater cause, as the Bucks not only secured a dominant 71-24 victory over Western Wayne but also launched their Coaches vs. Cancer fundraising efforts.
The event, spearheaded by 6 senior classmates (Cole Fangio, Maggie Jimmie, Jack McNeff, Lucy Seibert, Izzy Rought and Anna Trauger) for their senior project, brought the Dunmore community together in support of Megan Judge, a middle school teacher currently undergoing treatment. Basket raffles and fundraising initiatives helped kick off a week of support aimed at making a meaningful impact.
Bucks Shine on the Court
On the hardwood, Dunmore (10-7, 4-4) wasted no time asserting their dominance, storming out to a 22-5 lead in the first quarter and never looking back. Brayden Canavan led the charge with 22 points, sinking six three-pointers in a stellar performance. Nate Aviles added 11 points, while Carter Sload and Felix Bautista provided key contributions off the bench.
The Bucks' defense stifled Western Wayne (2-15, 0-9), holding the Wildcats to single-digit scoring in every quarter. Sean Owens led Western Wayne with 13 points, nearly accounting for half of his team’s offensive production.
Key Stats:
Dunmore: 11 three-pointers, 29 total field goals
Western Wayne: 2 three-pointers, 9 total field goals
Dunmore’s Balanced Attack: 11 different players scored
A Week of Giving Continues
With the Coaches vs. Cancer initiative in full swing, Dunmore will continue its fundraising efforts throughout the week with more events and community involvement. The Bucks proved they could win big on the court, but the true victory came in the stands—where students, families, and teachers rallied behind one of their own.
As Dunmore looks ahead to its next matchup, the impact of this night will resonate far beyond basketball. It was a reminder that some victories are bigger than the scoreboard.
