As the dust settles on Week 1 of the high school football season, the District IV landscape has already seen its share of surprises, shakeups, and statement wins. The preseason rankings gave us a glimpse of potential, but now that the pads are popping and the games are official, it's clear some teams came out swinging—while others have ground to make up.

Here’s how the Coach's Health and Fitness District IV Rankings have shifted after opening weekend.

SMALL SCHOOLS (Class A, AA, AAA)

1. Troy (Preseason #1)

No surprise here—the reigning state champs looked the part in their opener, holding firm at the top. Troy came out with power and precision, reinforcing why they’re still the team to beat.

2. Montoursville (Preseason #8)

One of the biggest movers of the week, Montoursville skyrocketed from #8 to #2 after an eye-opening Week 1 performance. Their physicality and execution proved they’re more than ready to challenge the elite.

3. Warrior Run (Preseason #9)

Talk about making a statement. Warrior Run jumped six spots after knocking off a higher-ranked opponent and showing poise on both sides of the ball. They're a program on the rise with momentum on their side.

4. Southern Columbia (Preseason #4)

Steady and strong, Southern Columbia holds their position. While not quite dominant in Week 1, they showed enough to maintain their top-tier status. With Coach Roth at the helm, don’t expect them to stay quiet for long.

5. Danville (Preseason #2)

Danville slides slightly after a tighter-than-expected game, but the Ironmen are still firmly in the mix. Their talent and experience should help them bounce back quickly.

6. Canton (Preseason #7)

Canton moves up one spot after a gritty win. The Warriors continue to do what they do best—play tough, disciplined football that wears down opponents.

7. Bloomsburg (Unranked Preseason)

Welcome to the top 10, Panthers. After flying under the radar in the preseason, Bloomsburg made their presence felt with a strong Week 1 showing. They've earned this spot.

8. Mifflinburg (Unranked Preseason)

Another new face in the rankings, Mifflinburg impressed with a balanced attack and solid defensive play. They're a team to watch heading into Week 2.

9. Mount Carmel (Preseason #3)

A rare early-season stumble drops the Red Tornadoes down the list. Mount Carmel has tradition and talent, but they’ll need to regroup quickly to stay in the hunt.

10. Line Mountain (Unranked Preseason)

Rounding out the top 10 is Line Mountain, who edged their way in with a resilient Week 1 effort. They're clearly hungry and ready to make some noise.

Dropped Out:

  • Lewisburg (Preseason #6)

  • Loyalsock (Preseason #10)

LARGE SCHOOLS (Class AAAA and Above)

1. Shamokin (Preseason #1)

Still sitting on the throne, Shamokin delivered a strong opening statement to justify their top billing. With physicality and experience, the Indians are looking like the real deal.

2. Jersey Shore (Preseason #2)

No movement here—Jersey Shore handled business and continues to look like a team that will be tough to slow down. Expect them to push Shamokin all season long.

3. Williamsport (Preseason #4)

The Millionaires jump a spot after a solid start to the year. Known for their athleticism and speed, Williamsport looks ready to challenge the top dogs.

4. Athens (Preseason #5)

Athens moves up a notch thanks to some early-season grit. They’re quietly positioning themselves as a team capable of an upset or two this fall.

5. Selinsgrove (Preseason #3)

A bit of a stumble drops Selinsgrove to the bottom of the large-school rankings. There’s still time to right the ship, but the Seals will need a bounce-back win soon.

Final Thoughts

One week in, and we already have some drama in District IV. The rise of teams like Warrior Run, Montoursville, and Bloomsburg proves that rankings are earned on the field—not on paper. Meanwhile, powerhouses like Troy and Shamokin continue to remind everyone why they were preseason favorites.

As always, a huge thanks to Coach's Health and Fitness for supporting high school athletics and sponsoring these weekly rankings. Stay tuned as the season heats up, the rivalries intensify, and Friday nights continue to deliver unforgettable football.
