As the spring championship season winds down across Northeast Pennsylvania, eyes are already turning toward the fall — especially in the world of high school field hockey. Known for its rich talent pool and competitive edge, District 2 has long established itself as a breeding ground for elite field hockey athletes.

With a track record of producing players who advance to top collegiate programs — including Michigan State, Rutgers, Indiana, Temple, Lafayette, and even national powerhouse UNC — the region continues to solidify its reputation on the national stage. District 2 programs aren’t just about tradition; they’re about progress, development, and preparing athletes for the next level.

This Saturday, FAME Strength and Surge are teaming up to play a key role in that development, hosting a field hockey-specific combine designed to test and showcase athletic performance. Athletes will be measured in key areas such as the 40-yard dash, pro agility, and broad jump — metrics that speak volumes about speed, explosiveness, and overall athletic potential.  In addition to performance testing, athletes will also have the opportunity to demonstrate their on-field skill sets in scrimmages, giving them a chance to showcase their game IQ, stick work, and positional strengths in a competitive setting.

“This event is about bridging the gap between high school and college competition,” said Matt Flanagan of FAME Strength. “To play at the next level, it’s all about building speed, strength, and understanding where you stand athletically. This combine gives athletes a chance to do exactly that — and to do it in front of the right people.”

In past events, Division I coaches from programs like Rutgers and Michigan State have made appearances, and this weekend could see similar recruiting eyes in the crowd, evaluating talent and looking for the next standout player to join their ranks.

FAME Strength and Surge are also set to expand their roles in athlete development this summer, offering more training opportunities that focus specifically on field hockey performance. For athletes in District 2, this means a chance to elevate their game in the off-season and gain critical exposure heading into the fall.

The future of field hockey in District 2 looks bright — and with events like this, the path to college success is clearer than ever.
