Wilkes-Barre Area High School was electric Sunday afternoon as nine teams hit the mat for the rescheduled District 2 Competitive Cheer Championships, battling for a spot on the state stage.

Competitive cheer blends athleticism, precision, and performance where every stunt, tumble, and count matters. When the scores were finalized, the top four teams overall earned state berths, regardless of classification.

At the top, Hazleton Area continued its reign. The Cougars captured their fifth District 2 Competitive Cheer championship, reinforcing a dynasty that has become the gold standard in the district.

Behind them, the afternoon delivered milestone moments.

Wilkes-Barre Area and Mid Valley both secured their first-ever trips to the PIAA State Competitive Cheer Championships, marking breakthrough performances on their home mat and the district stage.

Crestwood turned in a strong, composed routine to finish second overall, rounding out a competitive top tier and locking in another state appearance for District 2.

District 2 Final Scores (State Qualifiers)

  • Hazleton Area – 85.9
  • Crestwood – 77.4
  • Wilkes-Barre Area – 77.0
  • Mid Valley – 73.1

Pittston Area, Wyoming Area, Delaware Valley, Wallenpaupack, and Berwick also competed, adding depth and noise to a packed afternoon.

Next stop: PIAA States, January 9–10 in Johnstown, PA where District 2 heads in confident, battle-tested, and ready to make more noise.
