As the PIAA State Playoffs begin, several District 2 boys' basketball teams are ready to take the court for their first-round matchups this Friday and Saturday. With teams spanning multiple classifications, the road to a state championship begins now.
Class 2A
Two District 2 teams will be in action on Saturday in the Class 2A bracket. Old Forge will have the advantage of playing at home as they take on Sayre at 4:00 PM, while Lackawanna Trail will be on the road against Northwest Area, also tipping off at 4:00 PM.
Class 3A
Saturday's Class 3A matchups will see Riverside hosting Southern Columbia at 1:00 PM, looking to defend its home court. Meanwhile, Holy Cross will be on the road, facing Troy in another crucial first-round game at 4:00 PM.
Class 4A
A trio of Class 4A teams from District 2 will be in action on Friday night at 7:00 PM. Wyoming Area faces a tough test on the road at Shamokin, while Valley View looks to advance as they take on Big Spring at home. Additionally, Scranton Prep will be traveling to Northwestern Lehigh for its first-round contest.
Class 5A
Both Abington Heights and Pittston Area will be on the floor Friday at 7:00 PM in Class 5A action. Abington Heights will host Upper Moreland, while Pittston Area makes the trip to Pottsgrove.
Class 6A
The Class 6A boys’ bracket will feature Hazleton Area traveling to Northampton for a Saturday 1:00 PM showdown. Meanwhile, Scranton will have home-court advantage when they take on Cheltenham at 4:00 PM.
Looking Ahead
The first round of the state playoffs presents a major challenge, but District 2 teams are prepared for the task. Winners from this weekend’s games will advance to the second round next week, keeping their championship hopes alive.
