The PTFCA Indoor State Championships saw some outstanding performances from District 2 athletes, as they made their mark against Pennsylvania’s best. With multiple top-10 finishes and personal bests, the championship meet proved that District 2 talent is ready to make noise as the outdoor season approaches.
Sprinters Make an Impact
Wilkes-Barre Area junior Kevon Creech put his speed on full display, securing 8th place in both the 60-meter dash (7.02) and the 200-meter dash (22.06). He showed his ability to rise to the occasion, clocking a 6.98 in the prelims of the 60-meter to earn a spot in the finals.
Dallas sophomore Julia Natitus also turned heads, finishing 8th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.23) and 15th in the 400-meter dash (58.67). As only a sophomore, Natitus is poised for a breakout outdoor season.
Distance Stars Hold Their Own
Dallas senior Madison Hedglin delivered one of the top finishes of the day for District 2, claiming 5th place in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:56.27. Her endurance and strength will be a major factor in the upcoming outdoor season.
Abington Heights junior Anna Pucilowski placed 16th in the mile (5:12.52), showing she has the potential to be a force in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter events this spring.
Field Event Standouts
The field events saw impressive performances as well. Wilkes-Barre Area junior Davon Underwood entered the long jump as a top-10 seed but finished 18th overall with a mark of 20-01.25. With his explosive athleticism, Underwood will look to improve on that as he shifts to the outdoor season.
In the pole vault, Delaware Valley’s Liliana Coe (Senior) soared to 8th place with a height of 11-06.00, while Western Wayne’s Katie Skirpan (Senior) finished 13th at 11-00.00. Meanwhile, Western Wayne junior Robert Carrelle cleared 14-06.00 to take 11th place.
Abington Heights senior Tomara Seid competed in the triple jump, finishing 16th overall with a distance of 35-01.25.
Valley View’s Tom Fiorelli (Senior) showed his strength in the shot put, finishing 12th overall with a throw of 50-08.25.
Momentum for the Outdoor Season
With these strong indoor performances, District 2 athletes have set the stage for a thrilling outdoor track and field season. The combination of speed, endurance, and field event excellence will make for an exciting spring, as these competitors look to build on their indoor success and chase district and state titles.
