In a highly anticipated state semifinal showdown, the Devon Prep Tide made a powerful statement with a commanding 64-44 victory over the Valley View Cougars on Friday night. Devon Prep’s balanced attack and sharp execution proved too much for the Cougars, who fought hard but struggled to overcome early deficits.

Devon Prep wasted no time asserting dominance, racing to a 20-12 lead after the first quarter and replicating that effort in the second for a 40-24 advantage at halftime. Despite Valley View’s efforts to regroup, the Tide remained in control, outscoring the Cougars in every quarter.

Leading the charge for Devon Prep was senior Zane Conlon, who poured in 27 points, going an efficient 12-for-17 from the field and adding three free throws. His presence in the paint and ability to finish through contact set the tone from start to finish. Right behind him was Reece Craft, contributing 24 points on 11 made field goals and two clutch free throws. Both players were unstoppable forces on the offensive end, combining for 51 of Devon Prep’s 64 total points.

Mason Thear, Calvin Smith, and Cooper Fairlamb each chipped in three points apiece, with all three draining momentum-shifting three-pointers to keep Valley View at bay.

For Valley View, senior forward Beyon McLean carried the load, delivering a valiant 23-point performance on 10 made field goals, including two three-pointers. His aggressive drives to the basket and ability to create his own shot kept the Cougars fighting, but Devon Prep’s defensive pressure forced Valley View into tough looks throughout the night.

Aidan Smola added five points, hitting a three-pointer and converting two free throws, while seniors Nick Kucharski, Noah Veno, Jagger Roe, and Tyler Scoblick each contributed four points apiece. Unfortunately, Valley View was unable to find consistent offensive rhythm beyond McLean’s efforts, finishing with just 19 made field goals and 3-of-5 from the free-throw line.

One of the night’s highlights beyond the game action was the overwhelming support from the Valley View community. The Cougar Crazies student section traveled in full force, bringing energy, noise, and unwavering support from the opening tip until the final buzzer. Their chants and enthusiasm never wavered, creating a playoff atmosphere that reflected the heart of Cougar basketball. The large contingent of Valley View fans stood proud of their team’s accomplishments and effort throughout a remarkable season.

The Cougars end their strong season with their heads held high, highlighted by big playoff wins over teams like Shamokin and Scranton Prep, and will look to rebuild around their underclassmen next year.

Devon Prep now advances to the state final, riding the momentum of a well-executed semifinal performance, where they will look to capture championship glory.
