Delaware Valley capitalized on a decisive second inning to clinch a 5-3 win against West Scranton on Wednesday. The team scored all five runs in that inning, demonstrating offensive prowess and resilience.

In the top of the second, Delaware Valley’s offense ignited. Frank Pedone’s fielder’s choice brought in the first run. Nick Jorgenson followed with a two-run double, and Isaiah Berrios capped the rally with a two-run single, establishing a 5-0 lead.

West Scranton responded in the third inning, narrowing the gap to 5-3, aided by a Delaware Valley error and a sacrifice fly. However, Delaware Valley’s pitching staff maintained composure, preventing further scoring.

Drew Wallace earned the win for Delaware Valley, delivering 4.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing only two hits, striking out four, and walking two. Berrios started the game, pitching 2.1 innings, conceding three unearned runs on two hits, with two strikeouts and three walks.

Offensively, Jorgenson and Trevor Phillips each recorded two hits, with Jorgenson and Berrios contributing two RBIs apiece. Defensively, Delaware Valley executed a key double play to stifle a potential West Scranton rally.

For West Scranton, Anderson Hidalgo led with two RBIs. Cameron Cole, Mason Lesh, Caiden Berardi, and Evan Walsh each added a hit. Berardi took the loss, pitching four innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits, with five strikeouts and four walks.

Delaware Valley aims to continue its momentum in the upcoming game against Scranton Prep on Friday.
