BERWICK — Heading into Week 3, all eyes were on Crispin Field for what many pegged as the game of the week: No. 1 small school Lackawanna Trail against No. 2 Berwick in SportzWire’s District 2 Coaches Poll. The matchup didn’t disappoint in hype, but when the final horn sounded, it was the Bulldogs who left no doubt, rolling to a 33-12 victory.

The stage featured two of the region’s premier playmakers, and both delivered highlight moments. Trail’s Isaac Ryon struck first, breaking free for a 67-yard sprint to the end zone in the first quarter. But Berwick’s Ty’Meere Wilkerson stole the spotlight, running wild behind a physical offensive line that bulldozed a path reminiscent of the Dawgs’ golden era. Wilkerson carried 26 times for 237 yards and three touchdowns, including runs of 38 and 81 yards that put the game out of reach.

Quarterback Brady Cleaver added balance, tossing a 32-yard touchdown strike to Alex Estrella in the opening frame and later breaking loose for a 27-yard score of his own. By the time Lackawanna Trail’s Tyler Jervis found the end zone late in the fourth, Berwick’s dominance was well established.

The numbers told the story: Berwick racked up 328 yards on the ground, while their defense kept the Lions at bay outside of Ryon’s early heroics. Trail fought to the final whistle, finishing with 188 rushing yards, but turnovers and stalled drives proved costly.

For Berwick, the victory wasn’t just about climbing the rankings, it was about sending a message. The Bulldogs looked every bit like a program determined to restore the roar and reclaim their place among District 2’s elite.
