After a slow start that saw Crestwood fall behind 2-0, the Comets exploded for six runs in the third inning to take control and eventually earn an 8-3 road win over Wyoming Area to open their season.

Senior right-hander Chris Litchkofski, who also got the start on the mound, delivered a clutch two-run single to tie the game at two with the bases loaded. Sophomore Jack Rodgers followed with a bases-clearing double to break the game wide open, giving Litchkofski all the run support he needed.

“We started off a little slow, but we picked it up. It felt good to be back on the field,” said Litchkofski, who struck out 10 over 5.1 innings to earn the win.

Wyoming Area struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Jacob Snyder led off with a single, stole second and third, and came around to score on an error for a 1-0 lead. The Warriors added another in the second after Ben Rogish singled, stole second, reached third on a balk, and scored on a single by Chase Speicher to make it 2-0.

Crestwood responded in the top of the third. Dylan Domzalski doubled, followed by a walk to Connor Wagaman. After a double steal and an intentional walk to Zack Stavish, Litchkofski came through with a two-run single to tie the game. Josh Mylet followed with an RBI double, and after a walk to Jacob Feisel, Rodgers smashed a bases-clearing double to give Crestwood a 6-2 lead.

The Comets tacked on two more in the fourth. Domzalski doubled for the second time, and Wagaman singled to put runners at the corners. Stavish doubled home a run, and Litchkofski added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 8-2.

Wyoming Area’s final run came in the sixth when Mitchell Rusinchak singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a groundout by Noah Smith.

Jaxon Fedak came in to close things out for Crestwood, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings to preserve the win. Wyoming Area dropped to 0-2 on the season.
