The Crestwood Lady Comets secured a milestone victory on Saturday night, earning their first-ever state playoff win with a 51-39 triumph over Manheim Central. Despite a strong push from the Lady Barons in the second half, Crestwood responded with poise, using key defensive plays and clutch shooting to seal the victory.
Crestwood set the tone early, jumping out to a 16-4 lead behind a dominant 12-0 run in the first quarter. By halftime, the Lady Comets held a 28-17 advantage, fueled by Kate Gallagher’s five consecutive points to stretch the lead to double digits.
Manheim Central fought back in the third quarter, using an 11-1 run to cut the deficit to just one point. However, Crestwood never wavered. Following an intentional foul by the Lady Barons, Jackie Gallagher calmly knocked down two free throws before Kendall Petrosky drilled a three-pointer. Moments later, Jordan Andrews came up with a steal and layup to push the lead back to eight. Crestwood entered the fourth quarter up 38-32.
Andrews delivered another crucial three-pointer to extend the lead to nine early in the final frame, but Manheim Central responded with a quick 5-0 run to pull within four. Once again, the Lady Comets answered. They locked in defensively and closed the game on an 8-0 run, ensuring their historic victory.
Andrews led the way with 13 points, while Petrosky added 14, including two three-pointers. Gallagher chipped in 10 points, knocking down six free throws to help ice the game.
With the win, Crestwood advances to the next round, where they will face the winner of Unionville and Freire Charter.
