It was a picture-perfect evening for field hockey, and two of District 2’s premier programs delivered a battle worthy of the setting. Crestwood, ranked No. 1 in the latest coaches’ poll released earlier today, defended their home turf with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over rival Lake-Lehman.

The Comets wasted no time getting on the board. In the first quarter, Allie Myers calmly converted on a stroke to give Crestwood a 1–0 lead heading into the second. The teams then traded defensive stops in the middle periods, with both goalkeepers standing tall against waves of pressure.

Lake-Lehman refused to back down. Late in the third quarter, Sara Womach equalized, finishing off a corner to knot the score at 1–1 with less than three minutes remaining in the period. The goal gave the Black Knights a jolt of momentum and set the stage for a tense final frame.

That’s when Crestwood turned to one of its clutch performers. In the fourth quarter, Callie Koons found the back of the cage with the go-ahead strike, putting the Comets back in front, 2–1. From there, Crestwood’s defense locked in, closing out the game and sealing an important early-season win.

For Crestwood, the victory not only extends their momentum but also reaffirms their spot atop the District 2 field hockey rankings. For Lake-Lehman, the effort underscored their grit and depth, proving they remain one of the toughest programs in the region.

With the atmosphere of a playoff game and the energy of two perennial contenders, Monday night’s matchup was another reminder of why District 2 field hockey continues to shine on the state stage.
