In a game of two very different halves, Crestwood held off a fierce second-half surge by Lakeland to earn a 13-11 win in boys lacrosse action.
Crestwood came out firing in the first half, building a dominant 10-2 lead behind an explosive offensive effort. Senior Kevin Schlude led the way with 5 goals and 2 assists, while Jack Augustine chipped in with 2 goals and 4 assists. Gianni Piccolotti added a goal and 2 assists, while contributions from Christopher Schlude (1G/1A), Ashton Amend (1G), Caleb Eisenhauer (1G), Jacob Jeckell (1G), Colin Lazo (1G), and Logan Lawson (1A) gave the Comets a balanced attack.
Lakeland regrouped after halftime and mounted a furious comeback in the second half, outscoring Crestwood 9-3. Jessie Kovaleski was nearly unstoppable, scoring 6 goals to lead the charge. Nathan Boyarski added 4 goals, and Gavin Roberts chipped in with one, as the Chiefs cut the deficit to just two by the final whistle.
Defensively, Ethan Zabroski recorded one save for Crestwood, with Dylan Bellas adding four more. For Lakeland, Kane stood tall in the cage with six saves to help spark the second-half rally.
Despite the momentum swing, Crestwood’s early dominance proved too much for Lakeland to overcome, securing the Comets a hard-fought win.
With the victory, Crestwood improves their season record and shows they can hang on under pressure. Lakeland, meanwhile, proved they have the firepower to make any game competitive and will look to build off their strong second-half showing moving forward.
