Dallas, PA – September 13, 2025 — There’s a new energy surrounding Misericordia football, and it was on full display Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field as the Cougars knocked off Albright, 42–21, to even their record at 1–1 and open MAC play with a statement victory.
Just one week earlier, Misericordia opened the season on the road against nationally recognized Endicott. Though the Cougars fell 31–21, they battled toe-to-toe with one of the region’s premier programs — a sign that this year’s group was ready to compete at a higher level. That effort rolled directly into Week 2, where they delivered in front of a home crowd.
Sophomore quarterback Jacob Hunter was dynamic, throwing for 188 yards and 4 touchdowns while also rushing for 104 yards on 12 carries. His connection with Jacob Hoy (6 catches, 53 yards, 2 touchdowns) and Jordan Alston (2 touchdown grabs) kept Albright’s defense off balance. Angelo Fluri added a 2-yard rushing score, and Jordan Chmielewski electrified the sideline with a 12-yard punt return touchdown in the second quarter.
Misericordia’s offense piled up 368 total yards, including 169 on the ground, while converting 24 first downs to Albright’s 21.
After trading scores in the first quarter, the Cougars exploded for 21 unanswered points in the second. Hunter found Hoy for a short touchdown, Fluri powered into the end zone, and Chmielewski’s special teams spark capped a dominant stretch that gave Misericordia full control heading into halftime.
The defense tightened when it mattered most, holding Albright to just 56 rushing yards on 22 carries and forcing two turnovers. Kicker Connor McLaughlin was perfect on the day, hitting all 6 extra points, while also handling kickoff duties with two touchbacks.
Through two weeks, Misericordia has shown they are ready to compete in the MAC. The opening loss at Endicott showcased their toughness, and this week’s home victory confirmed the growth and energy in the program.
Head Coach Steve Cushing and his staff have emphasized discipline, preparation, and belief, and it’s paying off. From the offensive play-calling to the defensive adjustments, to the spark on special teams, this Cougar team is playing with confidence and purpose.
The Cougars (1–1, 1–0 MAC) will carry momentum into next week’s road test at Widener University on September 20. With a balanced attack and a renewed energy, Misericordia is quickly showing they are a team to watch this fall.
