MOOSIC, PA -- The sun was shining, the music was pumping, and the spirit of Northeastern Pennsylvania was on full display this past Saturday as hundreds gathered at Montage Mountain for “Swing for a Cause,” a benefit event in support of 20-year-old Eddie Kaufman.
What started as a simple fundraiser quickly blossomed into a full-blown community celebration of strength, generosity, and unity.
With Eddie’s “Support Squad” at the helm — dozens of dedicated volunteers proudly wearing matching t-shirts with the message “His Fight Is Our Fight” — every detail was handled with heart. From selling 50/50 and basket raffle tickets to offering a helping hand and welcoming every guest with warmth, the team made the day one to remember.
Out on the patio, a cornhole tournament brought out the competitive spirit as friends and families laughed, played, and rallied behind the cause. Adding to the lighthearted fun, local nonprofit Build N Athlete hosted a unique free throw competition on a toy hoop, drawing smiles from kids and adults alike.
Inside the ballroom, the energy was just as electric. The McAlarney family of Scott’s Greens hosted a lively putting challenge, while a local bands hit the stage to keep the good vibes flowing.
Guests sipped, sampled, and swayed to the music — all while browsing more than 150 incredible basket raffles donated by businesses and families from across the region. Prizes ranged from bicycles and baskets of cheer to family night outs with the RailRiders and Penguins, and even an autographed jersey from New York Mets pitcher and Valley View alum Max Kranick.
It was a day of laughs, love, and lasting impact. And through it all, one truth rang louder than the music and stronger than any raffle total: when Team Eddie K calls, NEPA answers — together.
