Holy Redeemer put together a complete performance on Saturday afternoon, riding timely hitting and a strong start from Cody Quaglia to a 5-1 victory over Wyoming Area.
Senior shortstop Drew Cisney was the catalyst at the plate for the Royals, going 3-for-4 with three singles and driving in a trio of runs. He wasted no time getting things started, ripping an RBI single in the top of the first inning to put Holy Redeemer on the board early. The Royals plated two in the frame and added another in the second on another Cisney base hit to center.
Quaglia was in full command on the mound, tossing a complete game with seven innings of work. The junior right-hander scattered five hits and allowed just one unearned run while striking out seven and not issuing a single walk.
Holy Redeemer showed patience at the plate, drawing seven walks—three of which came from Alex Gordon, who reached base every time he stepped in the box. The Royals also showed aggression on the base paths, swiping five bags and executing two double plays defensively to keep Wyoming Area off balance.
Wyoming Area’s lone run came in the first inning, but the Warriors were held quiet the rest of the way. Jacob Snyder led the Wyoming Area offense with two hits in three at-bats, and Mitchell Rusinchak added three hits of his own.
Alex Vacula took the loss for the Warriors, surrendering five runs (three earned) over five innings while walking six and striking out two.
Holy Redeemer will look to build on the win when they host Wyoming Area again on Tuesday.
