Chris Parker has officially stepped down as head coach of the Wyoming Valley West boys basketball team, ending a five-year run marked by steady leadership and competitive play.
Taking over in June 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Parker jumped in immediately. Before he ever led a practice, he was already on the sidelines of local parks, watching pickup games and scouting future talent. That early commitment helped lay the foundation for a program rooted in effort and accountability.
Parker’s teams were known for being athletic, physical, and tough. As Valley West moved up from Class 5A to 6A, the Spartans continued to compete hard, often punching above their weight. This past season, the program recorded a signature win over perennial state contender Executive Education Academy.
Although the program didn’t make a deep postseason run during his tenure, Parker helped bring back a level of consistency and respect. His players competed night in and night out — a reflection of the identity he instilled.
After five seasons, Parker made the decision to step away to spend more time with his family, including the opportunity to visit his daughter at Coastal Carolina University. A well-known figure in the local basketball scene, Parker leaves behind a Valley West team that plays with edge, energy, and pride — and a program better off than when he arrived.
