JMU commit strikes out 15, collects 2 hits in dominant performance for the Knights!
BERWICK, PA – On a night marked by career achievements and complete team execution, Hannah Chipego delivered a milestone-filled performance to lead Lake-Lehman past Berwick 8-2 on Monday in a Wyoming Valley Conference matchup.
The James Madison University softball commit was dominant in the circle, recording 15 strikeouts while allowing just one hit and two runs across seven innings. In addition to the impressive pitching line, she reached both 500 career strikeouts and 100 career hits, becoming the first player in program history to reach both milestones in the same game.
Lake-Lehman wasted no time establishing control. The Knights opened scoring in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk from Hayley Wallace. In the second, Kirsten Finarelli provided the big swing — a three-run home run to center field that pushed the lead to 5-0.
Finarelli added three walks to her stat line, showing strong plate discipline throughout. The Knights extended their lead in the third and fifth innings with key contributions from Jordan Shorts and Kaitlyn Brudnicki.
Brudnicki also tallied two hits and two stolen bases, while Wallace and Haylee Makarawicz each had multi-hit games. As a team, Lake-Lehman totaled 11 hits and drew five walks.
Makayla Brown led the way for Berwick, going the distance in the circle with nine strikeouts and recording the Bulldogs’ lone hit.
