In a battle where every pitch mattered, Lakeland came out on top with a narrow 2-0 win over Lackawanna Trail on Thursday night. The game featured a masterclass in pitching from both sides, but it was Lakeland’s timely execution in the sixth inning that made the difference.
Lakeland starter Mandy Magnot was lights-out, tossing a complete-game shutout with six strikeouts, no walks, and just three hits allowed. On the other side, Madison Pietrzak matched her stride for stride through five innings, surrendering only four hits and two unearned runs while walking none. The pitchers were in command all game long, keeping offenses silent and fans on the edge of their seats.
The breakthrough came in the top of the sixth when an error by Lackawanna Trail opened the door. Olivia Lach made it count with a well-placed RBI groundout that doubled the lead to 2-0. It was the only offense the Chiefs needed behind Magnot’s dominance in the circle.
At the plate, Mick Eremo led Lakeland with a 2-for-3 performance, while Payton Laytos collected two of Lackawanna Trail’s three total hits. Both teams flashed the leather as well, each turning a crisp double play to keep the game tight.
It was a low-scoring affair, but a thrilling one – a true showcase of pitching brilliance and defensive grit.
