SUNBURY, PA – On December 23rd, 2025, the Mifflinburg Boys Basketball team took a trip to Shikellamy High School to take on the Braves. Behind a solid second half and Chad Martin’s 18 points, the Wildcats cruised to a 30-point victory.

Q1 –

Within the first two minutes of play, Mifflinburg jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead. Shikellamy’s Alex Peifer responded with some foul shots, but Mifflinburg continued their early spark with buckets from Chad Martin and Jackson Marr. Jackson Griffith scored four in the 1st quarter of play, but he also played a large part in getting his teammates the ball. Mifflinburg led 16-8 after the first, however, Shikellamy’s Alex Peifer scored six of Shikellamy’s eight points. Charlie Walter pitched in the other two points. Mifflinburg led 16-8 at this point.

Q2 –

Shikellamy began the second quarter with some hope after Aaron Bucher converted a two-point shot followed by an Alex Peifer trey (16-13 Mifflinburg). After Mifflinburg missed some putback attempts, Chad Martin was fouled on a converted layup, adding two points to the Wildcats lead. From there, Shikellamy Brave Alex Peifer knocked down two three-pointers, giving him 15 of Shikellamy’s 19 points. In between Peifer’s threes, Mifflinburg’s Grady Brubaker found the basket for two. Mifflinburg closed the first half with a 9-0 run where Jackson Griffith, Chase Yoder, Chad Martin, and Jackson Marr all found the basket.

Q3 –

The second half was kick-started by a three-pointer from Chad Martin, giving him 13 points on the night. Shikellamy responded with four points from Corbin Stahl and another three-pointer from Alex Peifer (32-26 Mifflinburg). From there, Mifflinburg began to pull away with a Grady Brubaker layup and two transition conversions from JP Marr, earning him his only four points of the contest. Jackson Griffith added on three more points to the Wildcats’ lead with an and-1 bucket at the rim. Chad Martin finished the third quarter with a trip to the line where he went 1-for-2, handing the Braves a 26-42 deficit.

Q4 –

Chad Martin closed the third quarter with a point and opened the fourth quarter with two, putting the Wildcats up 18. Mifflinburg’s 10-0 run finally ended with a Charlie Walter bucket (44-28 Mifflinburg). Shortly after Walter’s deuce, Mifflinburg’s Jackson Marr hit a two-point shot. Jackson Marr’s brother JP then fouled Justin Zeigler, leading to two converted Shikellamy free throws. The Brubaker brothers (Mifflinburg) then combined for six to further the Wildcats lead. Chad Martin joined in the action with the Brubaker brothers for another six points between the three of them. More than a minute passed before Mifflinburg’s Chase Yoder struck for two. Mifflinburg coach Kelly Griffith opted to put her backups in, and they scored four points, creating a 62-32 finish. Mifflinburg outscored the Shikellamy 20-6 in the final quarter.

POSTGAME –

After the conclusion of the game I was able to meet with the Mifflinburg head coach, Kelly Griffith. A shortened version of our conversation is italicized below.

Ben stated, “30-point win tonight”, “You guys are 2-0 on the road this season, so what was the difference tonight?”

Kelly stated, “We played great defense, our shots weren’t falling, and our threes weren’t falling“… but, “our defense and rebounding was very well… we did the little things well tonight”. Coach Kelly emphasized the fact that strong defense, rebounding, and solid ball movement was the key to victory in this matchup.

I then asked coach Kelly about her son, Jackson, and what his consistent double figure scoring has meant to the team. I also included how his passing was a big factor in the victory.

Kelly stated, “He does great… He does everything” whether it’s, “assists, steals, and/or rebounds. When the shots aren’t falling, he finds something else to do…”later stating, “He always finds what needs to be done on the court to win the game”

My final question consisted of asking coach Kelly what needs to be done over the next six days to prepare for a good Lewisburg team.

In short, coach Kelly emphasized that Mifflinburg just needs to grind and perform well in practice.

Conclusion –

Despite strong scoring efforts from Alex Peifer, Mifflinburg’s offensive presence was just too much for the Braves. Chad Martin scored 18, Jackson Griffith neared a double-double, and Grady Brubaker reached double figures. Mifflinburg will head home happy about the thirty-point victory, but they are only six days away from their next matchup where they will take on Lewisburg.

That’s all from us, Happy Holidays!!!
