MOUNTAINTOP — On a chilly Saturday morning at Crestwood High School, the Comets girls lacrosse team took care of business with a balanced team effort, defeating Delaware Valley behind standout performances from senior leaders Gia Caporuscio and Hannah Ziegler.
Crestwood set the tone early, controlling possession and ground balls, and capitalizing on scoring chances. Caporuscio was unstoppable, finishing with 4 goals, 1 assist, 2 draw controls, and 7 ground balls. Ziegler followed right behind, tallying 3 goals, 3 assists, 7 draw controls, and 4 ground balls — doing a little bit of everything to keep the momentum on Crestwood’s side.
The Comets also received key contributions from Ella Novelli, who scored twice and collected a ground ball, and Addie Knorr, who added a goal and helped on the defensive end with another ground ball. In goal, Lexi Zabroski stood tall, making 6 saves and picking up 2 ground balls of her own.
Delaware Valley showed plenty of fight, powered by a sensational outing from Ava Kraczewski. The dynamic attacker poured in 5 goals to keep the Warriors in striking distance throughout the game. Annabella Kornmeyer and Carrigan McCormick each chipped in with a goal, but Crestwood’s defense limited opportunities in key moments.
Delaware Valley goalie Jadia Palacios was a bright spot between the pipes, recording an impressive 12 saves, turning away several quality looks by the Comets.
In the end, Crestwood’s depth and ability to win draws and loose balls proved too much to overcome as they closed out a well-rounded win on their home field.
