Wilkes-Barre, PA — The 2025 Bernie’s Memorial 3 Mile Run/Walk, a beloved Independence Day tradition since 1984, took over the streets of Wilkes-Barre this morning with a vibrant turnout and impressive performances from runners of all ages.

In the female division, 18-year-old Madison Hedglin stole the show, finishing first with a blazing time of 17:06 (5:42 per mile pace). Julie Hartenbach, 38, was not far behind, clocking 17:14, followed by 20-year-old Lacey Danilovitz, who crossed the line in 18:33.

For the male runners, while there appeared to be inconsistencies in the official chip times, the paces told the story of a lightning-fast front pack. Tim O’Hearn (30) led the men with a 5:15 per mile pace, just ahead of Tom Kobeski (5:17 pace) and Matthew Bonsall (5:17 pace). Daniel Danilovitz (19) and Christopher Wadas (43) rounded out the top five, both finishing with a 5:18 pace.

Beyond the races, Bernie’s Run once again offered a Free Kids Fun Run, giving children ages 2-10 a chance to join the festivities. Families cheered along the course, which wound through the city streets and along the Susquehanna River, with awards handed out to top finishers and the largest registered team.

The Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA, which organizes the event, continues to use Bernie’s Run to promote healthy living and community engagement, making this Independence Day tradition a celebration of both fitness and local spirit.
