In a game where runs were at a premium, Dallas edged out the Crestwood 2-1 on Tuesday, relying on timely offense and a stellar outing from ace pitcher Nina Barrouk.
Barrouk was in control all afternoon, scattering eight hits and striking out nine over seven innings while allowing just one earned run. She kept the Comets off balance and delivered big outs in crucial moments, securing all 21 outs herself and leading the Mountaineers to their latest victory.
Crestwood struck early when Jorja Snyder launched a solo home run to center field in the top of the first, giving the Comets a 1-0 lead. But Dallas responded in the second when Giovanna Smacchi came through with a clutch single to right, tying the game at one apiece.
The game remained locked until the top of the fifth, when Dallas pushed across the go-ahead run on a Crestwood miscue. That proved to be the difference, as Barrouk shut the door the rest of the way.
Offensively, Carolyn Comitz paced the Mountaineers with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, while Smacchi drove in the tying run and reached base in one of her two official at-bats. Defensively, Dallas was flawless, turning a key double play and committing no errors. Lia Riley led the way with nine fielding chances.
Snyder continued to be a bright spot for Crestwood, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Ella Richards also collected two hits.
With the win, Dallas will look to carry momentum into Thursday’s home matchup against Wilkes-Barre Area.
