LACKAWANNA COLLEGE — The 23rd annual Lynett Memorial Girls Basketball Tournament tipped off Saturday afternoon at Lackawanna College, and Dunmore set the tone early, using balanced scoring, steady defense, and a decisive third-quarter surge to pull away for a 50–36 opening-round victory over Holy Cross.
Dunmore jumped out quickly, building a 14–5 first-quarter lead before Holy Cross settled in and responded in the second. The Crusaders edged the frame 10–7, trimming the deficit to 21–15 at halftime and keeping the contest within reach heading into the break.
Momentum swung firmly in the Lady Bucks’ favor coming out of the locker room. Dunmore erupted for 19 points in the third quarter, stretching the lead into double digits and creating separation. Holy Cross continued to battle in the fourth, but Dunmore closed the door with a 10–5 edge in the final period to seal the win.
Amanda Dempsey delivered one of the most complete performances of the afternoon, finishing with 11 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists while controlling tempo on both ends of the floor. Jackie Brown led Dunmore in scoring with 12 points, providing a strong presence inside.
Holy Cross was powered by a dominant showing from Ava Schmidt, who led all players with a game-high 16 points and 15 rebounds, keeping the Crusaders competitive throughout.
With the victory, Dunmore advances to the Lynett Memorial championship game, scheduled for Monday night, Dec. 29 at 6 p.m. at Lackawanna College, where the Lady Bucks will face Scranton, as they defeated Scranton Prep who haven't missed a Lynett Finals since 2018.
