Back Mountain 11U Wins Two in a Row to Eliminate Valley View in Hard-Fought Sectional Battles

CLARKS SUMMIT — Needing back-to-back wins to advance, Back Mountain rose to the challenge with a pair of one-run victories over Valley View in Friday night’s doubleheader, winning 3-2 in Game 1 and edging out a 2-1 win in extra innings in Game 2.
GAME 1: Back Mountain 3, Valley View 2
Both teams saw strong efforts on the mound, but it was Back Mountain who managed the key hits in the clutch to secure the first win.
Valley View struck first when Kody Malinowski drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the first to give his team a 1-0 lead. Back Mountain tied it up in the third on a groundout by Parker P before Matthew W tripled to deep left in the fourth to give his team a 2-1 edge.
Jacob Luchansky delivered a clutch single to left field in the fifth inning to tie the game at two. But in the bottom of the fifth, Back Mountain answered again with a run-scoring single to take the lead for good.
Mason Buczynski gave his team a fighting chance, throwing 4.2 innings and striking out eight while allowing six hits and two earned runs. Bryce Warnetsky was reliable behind the plate, finishing with 10 defensive chances and helping guide Buczynski through tough innings.
Talon Prutzman led Valley View offensively, going 2-for-3, while Luchansky and Warnetsky each added a hit. Valley View played clean defense throughout the game, committing no errors.
Oliver B led Back Mountain with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate. Matthew W, Parker P, and Bruce K each drove in a run. Back Mountain also turned a key double play and committed no errors, with Oliver recording a team-high seven defensive chances.
GAME 2: Back Mountain 2, Valley View 1 (Extra Innings)
Game 2 was another showcase of pitching and grit, as both teams battled into the seventh inning. Valley View broke the scoreless tie in the fourth on a defensive miscue, allowing Mason Buczynski to score. Back Mountain answered in the fifth on a double by Isaac T, then plated the winning run in the top of the seventh on a groundout by Bruce K.
Talon Prutzman was again a warrior for Valley View, pitching all 7 innings and striking out four while walking none. He allowed just one earned run on six hits. At the plate, Bryce Warnetsky went 2-for-3 with a double, and Prutzman reached base twice via walks and added a hit.
Despite drawing six walks, Valley View struggled to find the timely hit they needed, stranding multiple runners in scoring position. AJ Moyles also drew two walks for the Cougars.
Back Mountain used two pitchers in Game 2. Bruce K went 4.1 innings, giving up one unearned run on five hits, and Mac H threw 2.2 scoreless innings in relief, striking out four and not allowing a hit.
