SCOTT TOWNSHIP — With a championship berth on the line, Abington made it count.

Fueled by a five-run third inning and a well-rounded offensive effort, Abington powered past Kingston/Forty Fort 9-2 on Sunday evening in a Section 5 12U winners bracket matchup at Lakeland Little League.

Kingston/Forty Fort jumped ahead in the second inning behind a Seth Ahart RBI single and a Russell Singer sacrifice fly, taking a 2-0 lead.

But Abington didn’t flinch. In the bottom of the third, they flipped the script. A wild pitch scored two runs to tie the game, followed by a string of key hits from Penn Eckenrode, Oliver Giroux, James Kane, and Patrick Keeler. By the end of the inning, Abington held a 6-2 lead they wouldn’t give up.

Eckenrode also took the mound and delivered 2.1 strong innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two. At the plate, he finished 2-for-3 with a team-high two RBIs.

Abington racked up 13 hits in the game, with Lucas Deschaine, Keeler, Giroux, Kane, and Justin Johnson all collecting two hits apiece. The offense rolled top to bottom and put pressure on Kingston/Forty Fort throughout the game.

TJ Needle got the start for KFF and struck out three across 2.2 innings, allowing five unearned runs. Richard McCabe, Samuel Figueroa, Jason Dailey, and Ahart each had a hit, while KFF turned a double play defensively to limit the damage.

With the win, Abington advances to the Section 5 championship game and will need to be beaten twice to be denied the title.

Kingston/Forty Fort drops into the elimination bracket and will face Greater Pittston Township (GPT) on Monday with a trip to the championship on the line.

Championship stage is set — but there’s still work to be done.
