Abington Powers Past Moosic in 12U Elimination Tournament Battle

MOOSIC — In a high-energy showdown full of momentum swings, Abington stormed back from an early deficit to defeat the Moosic Little League 11/12 All-Stars, 10-5, in District 17 elimination tournament action Tuesday night.
Moosic came out swinging. Marek Samsell lit up the scoreboard in the bottom of the first with a two-run blast to center, energizing the home crowd. In the second, Alex Ross tagged up and scored to make it 3-0, and Moosic looked to be in control early.
But in the third, the script flipped.
Abington erupted for six runs on just three hits to seize the lead. Max Vazquez delivered the highlight of the inning — a towering three-run homer to left that flipped the game and the momentum. Penn Eckenrode chipped in with a key RBI double, and suddenly, Abington was in front, 6-3.
Moosic answered with a run in the third to trim the lead, but Abington tacked on more in the fifth behind clutch hitting from Eckenrode and Vazquez, who each finished the game with three RBIs. Patrick Keeler kept the pressure on, working two walks and swiping two bags, while James Kane collected two doubles and scored twice. Oliver Giroux added two hits of his own in the middle of the lineup.
On the mound, Justin Johnson got the start for Abington, striking out three across 2.1 innings. Vazquez closed it out in dominant fashion, striking out three in 1.2 innings of hitless relief.
For Moosic, Samsell led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs. Mason Linck also collected two hits, while the defense played clean ball, committing no errors behind starter Wyatt Davis, who pitched into the fifth and struck out four.
The win keeps Abington alive in the District 17 12U elimination bracket as they continue their push toward championship weekend.
