FAIRCHANCE, PA — In a game where every pitch mattered, Abington 12U All-Stars leaned on their arms, defense, and timely execution to secure a gritty 2-1 win over Hollidaysburg Navy (HASBL) in their state tournament opener at Fairchance Little League.

Dylan Lyle got the start and set the tone with 1.2 innings of scoreless work, striking out two. Jaxon Hizny followed in dominant fashion, allowing just one hit and striking out five over four innings of relief to earn the win.

Abington capitalized in the second inning. Grady Tomachick drove in the game’s first run on a groundout, followed by an RBI single from Hizny down the right field line to put the Section 5 champs up 2-0.

Hollidaysburg clawed back in the fourth when Christian Metzger launched a solo home run to right, but it wasn’t enough as Hizny shut things down from there.

Penn Eckenrode, Ben Hillebrand, James Kane, and Hizny each recorded hits in the tight contest. Abington stayed sharp defensively, committing zero errors—Kane led the way with eight plays in the field.

HASBL’s Brayden Swope gave his team a chance with 2.1 innings of three-hit ball, while Metzger paced the offense with a 2-for-2 effort that included the team’s only run.

What’s Next:

With the win, Abington improves to 1-0 in the double elimination A bracket and will face Pennridge—the Section 6 champs—on Tuesday at 4:00 PM, also at Fairchance Little League.

Pennridge LL advanced after a hard-fought 4-3 win over Butler LL (Section 1) on Monday afternoon.
