In a tightly contested matchup on Tuesday, top-ranked Warrior Run proved why they're sitting atop the standings, overcoming an early deficit to defeat #20 Mifflinburg 3-1 in high school baseball action.
Mifflinburg struck first in the second inning, as Kaiden Kmett crossed the plate to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. But that would be the only offense Mifflinburg could muster against Warrior Run ace Landon Polcyn, who delivered a dominant performance on the mound. Polcyn went the distance, pitching all seven innings while striking out 10 and allowing just two hits to secure the win for the Defenders.
Warrior Run's offense came to life in the fourth inning. Stone Allison and Griffen Harrington each scored to put the Defenders ahead. Harrington had a standout day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and 2 RBIs, helping to swing the momentum in Warrior Run’s favor.
In the fifth, Landon Tillson added to the lead, scoring the team’s third run after contributing one of the Defenders’ six hits on the day. Isaiah Betz also chipped in with a strong showing at the plate, going 2-for-3 and driving in a run to support the effort.
Mifflinburg’s pitching and defense kept the game within reach, but the Wildcats couldn’t break through Polcyn’s command and consistency on the mound.
With the win, Warrior Run continues its impressive season, showing why they're considered the team to beat as the postseason approaches. Mifflinburg, despite the loss, showed flashes of resilience and will look to regroup heading into their next matchup.
