Wyoming Area kept its perfect season alive with a 2–1 win over Holy Redeemer on Wednesday afternoon at the Luzerne County Sports Complex. Sophomore forward Ava Musinski continued her strong run of form, scoring both goals for the Warriors. Redeemer answered in the second half when Elyse Kunec buried the equalizer, but Musinski struck again to give Wyoming Area the edge they needed.
The win adds to Wyoming Area’s unbeaten start. The Warriors now sit at 10–0 overall and 6–0 in the WVC Division 2 standings, keeping them in first place. Their balance of firepower up front and steady defending has made them one of the most difficult teams to beat in District 2. Musinski, who also had a brace in the shutout win over Lake-Lehman earlier this month, has quickly become one of the top attacking threats in the conference.
Holy Redeemer, now 4–5 overall and 3–2 in league play, showed plenty of fight. Kunec’s goal in the second half tied the match and gave the Royals a surge of momentum, but they couldn’t quite find a way to finish off the comeback. Even in defeat, Redeemer has proven it can go toe-to-toe with the league’s best, with earlier wins keeping them in the top half of the division.
Both programs are no strangers to playoff soccer. Wyoming Area has consistently been among the top seeds in District 2 Class 3A, advancing to the semifinals last year before falling to Scranton Prep. Holy Redeemer, competing in the Class 1A bracket, reached the postseason in 2024 as well, falling to Moravian Academy. With both teams once again in the thick of the race, Wednesday’s matchup carried the feel of a postseason test.
For Wyoming Area, it’s another step forward in what has been a dominant September. For Holy Redeemer, it’s a reminder that they’re just a play or two away from turning close matches into signature wins. With plenty of soccer still to be played, both squads remain firmly in the conversation as contenders in District 2.
