The Valley View Cougars, ranked 4th on the SportzWire Top 10 , continued their impressive start to the season with a balanced attack in a 55-40 win over Plainfield (NJ) on Sunday afternoon at the Lackawanna College Student Union as part of the Top Tier Electric City Showcase. The win improved the Cougars to 5-0 on the season.

Cora Castellani led the way with 14 points, pacing a Valley View offense that saw four players score in double figures. Sadie Cardoni added 13 points and dominated the boards with nine rebounds. Giada Costa contributed 12 points and five steals, while Ava Gazoo added 10 points, including several key three-pointers early in the game. Daniella Ashby also made her presence felt with eight rebounds.

Valley View’s defensive intensity helped secure the victory, with Costa recording five steals and Castellani adding four. The Cougars opened the game with an eight-point lead, thanks to Gazoo’s early sharpshooting. By the half, they extended their advantage to 27-18. Despite Plainfield’s efforts to close the gap, Valley View maintained control throughout the second half, holding a 41-25 lead late in the third quarter and never letting Plainfield get closer than 13 points in the final frame.

For Plainfield, Has’Zah Ward led with 12 points. The loss dropped them to 0-2 on the season after falling to Scranton Prep, 60-27, in Saturday’s game at the Electric City Showcase.
