Valley View Edges Wallenpaupack in Thrilling 3-2 Victory
At Valley View, Braden Loff delivered the game-winning goal with just 17 minutes left in regulation to lift the Cougars to a crucial 3-2 victory over Wallenpaupack in a Division I matchup. Loff’s decisive strike came off an assist from teammate Logan Cabrera, breaking a 2-2 tie and securing the win for Valley View.
The match started with Wallenpaupack’s Colby Bonagura opening the scoring at the 29:13 mark with an assist from Mrowka. However, Valley View responded before halftime with Jagger Roe finding the back of the net off an assist from Smola at 37:07, leveling the game at 1-1 going into the break.
In the second half, Valley View’s Jacob Bekele capitalized on a penalty kick at the 52-minute mark to give his team a 2-1 lead. But Wallenpaupack wasn’t done yet. Bonagura struck again for his second goal of the game just three minutes later, tying the score at 2-2 with 55:27 on the clock.
The tie didn’t last long, as Braden Loff hit the back of the net for the Cougars, netting the winning goal at 63:00, which ultimately secured the victory for Valley View.
Despite Wallenpaupack outshooting Valley View 12-4 on corner opportunities, the Cougars had the advantage in shots overall, finishing with 15 compared to Wallenpaupack’s 12. Both goalkeepers were kept busy throughout the contest, with Matyjaszek of Wallenpaupack recording 12 saves and Sherman of Valley View making 10.
With the win, Valley View improves their record to 5-4 in the division and 7-4-1 overall, while Wallenpaupack continues to struggle, falling to 1-8 in the division and 2-11 overall.
This victory was a significant boost for Valley View as they continue to fight for positioning in the competitive Division I standings.
