Last season, the Holy Cross basketball team made it to the finals of the annual Lynett Tournament, where they came up short 48-46 against the Scranton Knights. This time around, they got back to the championship and have a chance to finish their story after a 69-47 win over Scranton Prep. The Crusaders record now sits at 6-2. They have the chance to win their first tournament since 2019, when they beat Scranton Prep 55-54. The Crusaders are 2-6 in championship games since they began competing as Holy Cross in 2007.
Adam Badyrka, Matt Lyons and Michael Hughes led the way for the Crusaders offense. The trio combined for 43 of the 69 points Holy Cross scored. Badyrka especially continues to show why he is one of the best guards in the district with 23 points, 10 of which came in the first quarter. Lyons was a huge factor in the rebounding game, and scored the majority of his 12 points in the second half. Hughes finished with 18 points.
For Scranton Prep, Packy Doherty led the way with 27 points. He put up 18 in the first half, which kept the Cavaliers within seven. Coming out of the half, Holy Cross limited Scranton Prep to four points in the third quarter. The Crusaders went on to win by 22, and they will face Scranton in the championship on December 29 and 7:30 pm at the Student Union at Lackawanna College. The Cavaliers will play Dunmore in the third place game at 2:30 pm the same day.
